The Youth Initiative is a Boston Road Runners program designed to offer Bostonians under 18 a community-based opportunity to run and to race. The program offers discounts on races, medals, and other incentives to urge youth to participate, and provides a dedicated team of peers to foster a friendly and encouraging racing environment.
This program will be open to all Boston Public High School students who meet BRR’s academic requirements and attend all practices, races, and team meetings. In return for these requirements, students will receive team uniforms and discounted race registration and have open access to the coaching staff. BRR’s long-term goals for the program include offering more perks for the team members and to develop more programs tailored to individual middle and high school students’ needs. BRR is funding this initiative both through direct fundraising and by using a portion of the registration fees of our road races.
Running offers athletes of all ages increased confidence, physical and mental health benefits, and the ability to engage in a supportive community of fellow runners. BRR cannot wait to bring these benefits to high school students across Boston and appreciates the community’s support.
